Negative Pressure Wound Therapy in Wound Healing
Problem
Difficult-to-heal and chronic wounds negatively affect quality of life and incur high health care costs. Although a number of NPWT devices have received approval by the Food and Drug Administration the evidence that NPWT improves wound healing in selected patients is promising, but not yet conclusive.
Project Status
In 2008 CMTP contracted with Hayes, Inc to develop an Effectiveness Guidance Document (EGD) to provide clinical researchers and product developers with guidelines for the design of studies that meet the evidence requirements of health care decision-makers on NPWT. The CMTP Working Group provides input on the document components and reviews the full EGD to ensure that it meets the information needs of multiple stakeholders. The final EGD will be made available on the CMTP website in 2009.
