Clinician Engagement

The Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Eugene Washington Engagement Award program awarded CMTP funding for this study in September of 2016. CMTP will develop effective strategies for partnering with front-line clinicians to conduct comparative effectiveness and patient centered outcomes research (CER/PCOR) in the context of health care delivery.

CMTP is the sole recipient of this award and responsible for all aspects of the project, including management of the Advisory Committee. Three project phases include a review of the literature relevant to clinician engagement in research, focus groups with physicians and nurses at several healthcare delivery organizations, and key informant interviews with researchers and clinicians involved in pragmatic clinical trials (PCTs).

This study will provide qualitative, empirical evidence pertaining to clinician perceptions of their role in CER/PCOR and factors likely to influence their participation in different types of studies. A conceptual framework will be developed to assist researchers as they plan to engage clinicians in CER/PCOR studies.
