Coverage with Evidence Development in Bariatric Surgery

CMTP is collaborating with Johns Hopkins University in the development and implementation of a framework that will enable payers to provide reimbursement for all clinical costs (bariatric surgery and weight loss interventions) for patients enrolled in a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) of bariatric surgery. We are also assisting JHU in developing an approach to apply this framework to provide coverage for clinical costs for patients that will be enrolled in a national multi-center RCT. In performing this work, CMTP is engaging with payers and other key stakeholders to form a regional alliance to serve as a platform to facilitate not only the JHU trial, but also to set priorities and implement coverage with evidence development (CED)  and other strategies to support comparative effectiveness research in obesity and diabetes more generally.
