Lawrence Sadwin

Mr. Sadwin has been a business and civic leader at the state and national level for many years. He presently serves as Chairman of the Board of the Center for Medical Technology Policy and is also the current President of the Friends of the World Heart Federation, Geneva, Switzerland. He recently served as the President/CEO of the Landmark HealthCare Foundation. Mr. Sadwin has been a tireless advocate for the American Heart Association for more than 25 years, after being diagnosed with heart disease and losing his father to the disease. He has served in nearly every volunteer capacity for the association, culminating with the prestigious national post of 2001-2002 Chairman of the Board, the chief volunteer executive officer responsible for the overall administration of the association’s business affairs, public relations and development. He was the first Rhode Islander ever to hold a national title in the organization.
In 2006, he was awarded the American Heart Association’s highest honor, the Gold Heart, which was presented at the Volunteer Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. He also earned the 2006 John H. Chafee Award for Leadership in Healthcare. He was recently honored by the Army National Guard for his service in their Decade of Health initiative.

Mr. Sadwin is committed to furthering the cause of illness prevention and cure by putting a face to heart disease. This was demonstrated most uniquely when he was the model for an interpretive sculpture called “A Fine Line Between Hope and Despair,” by the internationally known artist Christianne Corbat, whose work explores the relationship among art, medicine, and healing.

In addition to his advocacy for the American Heart Association, Mr. Sadwin has also served as
a member of the Public Advisory Board of the Joint Commission and commissioner of National Health Council’s Putting Patients First initiative. He is past chairman of the board of Landmark Medical Center and a former member of the Council of Public Representatives for the National Institutes of Health. He currently serves as a Governor of the Miriam Hospital Foundation, Providence, Rhode Island.

His business career began at the age of 21, when, as a senior in college at the University of Rhode Island, he took over his family’s textile manufacturing business, Sadwin Curtain Manufacturing Company, Inc., after the untimely death of his father. He served as the company’s CEO for the next 30 years. He has also held management positions with CitiGroup, General Electric,and The Torbot Group. Always seeking challenges, Mr. Sadwin is currently serving his second term as President of Ledgemont Country Club, Seekonk,Ma. Mr. Sadwin and his wife Joan currently reside in Warren, Rhode Island. They have two children and four extraordinary grandchildren.
