CMTP is advising on the development of this registry, which will enable the rapid comparison of traditional and patient reported outcomes that result from various radiation treatment approaches.

CMTP is an advisor to the Radiation Oncology Institute (ROI) and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) in the development and implementation of the National Radiation Oncology Registry (NROR). The goal of the NROR is to provide patients, clinicians, payers, and policymakers with critical information to allow rapid comparison of traditional and patient reported outcomes that result from competing treatment modalities.

The NROR pilot, now underway, focuses on the treatment of prostate cancer. Participating treatment sites represent a range of different facility types, geographic settings, patient volumes, and radiation modalities used. Pilot sites are participating in an objective and blinded process that will provide the framework for expansion of the NROR for the benefit of patients, clinicians, researchers, payers, device manufacturers and policy makers nationwide.

CMTP is responsible for convening stakeholders from across the health care spectrum, including patient advocacy groups, government officials, payers, industry executives, physicians, and non-radiation oncology registry experts and professional societies to inform the development of the registry and ensure meaningful participation of each group. CMTP and NROR convened the first Stakeholder Forum in April 2012. Participants provided input on issues such as research priorities, data use, dissemination, and reporting; HIPAA compliance and the sharing of protected health information; and the structure and governance of the NROR board. This input will help ensure the registry is successful in the real-world setting and that it fulfills the needs of the end users.

In addition, CMTP is assisting the NROR leadership with the development of their business model as they seek to expand the registry infrastructure and pursue near- and long-term funding support.
